The week saw the beginning of proceedings at the International Court of Justice looking at the Israeli occupation of Palestine: ICJ Hearings to Examine 57 Years of Israeli Occupation of Palestine. With recent attempts to hold Israel accountable at the ICJ South African Foreign Minister Naledi Pandor Reveals Threats to Family in Wake of ICJ Case Against Israel. 

Horrifically on Monday UN Experts Demanded Investigation Into IDF Abuse of Women and Girls in Gaza, abuse that includes sexual assault, rape and murder. As just one terrible example amidst the slaughter the murder of 6 year old Hind symbolizes the horrific reality of Israel’s genocide in Gaza. 

With no proper supplies being allowed into Gaza Infections are on the Rise in Gaza as Israel Impedes Delivery of Water, Food.

Vijay Prashad noted that there really Is No Place for the Palestinians of Gaza to Go.

Looking at the US role in the genocide were Medea Benjamin & Nicolas J. S. The recent II International Meeting of Theoretical Publications of Left Parties and Movements in Havana condemned the clear violations of international humanitarian law in Gaza in a powerful statement. 

In some slight good news a Dutch court blocked delivery of parts for F-35 fighter aircraft to Israel. 

There was other news from around the world of course.

With rising, disturbing xenophobic incidents the Workers Party of Ireland condemned the attempts of the far-right and fake “left” to embolden anti-migrant feeling in Ireland in an excellent, internationalist statement. 

A historic development saw Sinn Féin leader Michelle O’Neill become the First Minister of the North of Ireland. 

In a must read piece Jeffrey D. Sachs looked at the Biden-Schumer Plan to Kill More Ukrainians.

Also in US politics Carolyn Eisenberg wrote of the The Real Harvard Scandal: A Henry A. Kissinger Professorship of Statecraft and World Order and Maurice Cunningham’s terrific expose Who Are the ‘Moms’ for Liberty?. 

With elections to the European Parliament set for June 6-9, 2024, a group of European Communist and workers parties issued a joint appeal to both voters and Left parties: For a better life! For equality! For peace, cooperation, social progress! — European Communist parties release joint appeal.
