Sowmya Rajendran is an Indian author with more than 25 books to her credit. She has worked with publishers such as Tulika, Pratham, Penguin, Harpercollins, Scholastic and Rupa Publications. She was awarded the Sahitya Akademi’s Bal Sahitya Puraskar in 2015 for her novel Mayil Will Not Be Quiet. Her nonfiction book on gender Big Hero Size Zero: Gender Talk was chosen as an Honour Book at The Hindu Young World Goodbooks Awards in 2016. Sowmya has written extensively for the XSEED program in schools. 

Currently, Sowmya works as an independent journalist for Film CompanionThe News Minute and Moneycontrol.

She was previously Features Editor with The News Minute, writing on gender, culture and cinema. She was also Associate Editor with Chandamama children’s magazine. She is a gold medalist from Stella Maris College, Chennai, where she did her BA in English. She went on to obtain a Merit degree in MA Gender Studies from the University of Sussex, UK. She is currently based in Pune. She blogs at sowmyarajendran.substack.com.
