Greetings from the Foundation for Agrarian Studies (FAS)!

We are happy to announce the return of FAS Young Scholars’ Online Seminar Series (YSOSS, 2024-25). This is the third round of the acclaimed series which provides a platform for young scholars working in the field of rural economy to present their work in front of peers and experts in their areas, and be part of a wider research community. The series began in 2022-23 with young scholars from universities across the globe presenting their work on rural India. With the second round the scope of the seminar series expanded to the South Asian region. The third round of the series will cover a wide range of new topics — from investigating futures markets of agriculture to the history of rural hierarchies.

The series will be chaired by Barbara Harriss-White, Emeritus Professor of Development Studies, University of Oxford.

The YSOSS forms a part of the Foundation’s sustained efforts to engage with young researchers focusing on aspects of the agrarian question and rural life. In these hour-long seminars, young scholars present their research, followed by commentary from a discussant with relevant subject expertise, and a general discussion. These monthly seminars are highly regarded academic events, attracting a significant number of emerging scholars from around the world.

The first webinar of the current series will take place on August 30, 2024, Friday, at 4 pm IST.

The registrations for the Seminar Series are now open. This registration is valid for all the seminars of the YSOSS 2024-25 series. Once you register, you will subsequently receive links for all the eight seminars of the series, as and when they will take place.

It is also our request that you share the seminar details with relevant scholars/students in your institute/department, and kindly encourage them to register, as these seminars are not public in nature.

Please find attached the schedule poster for the seminars of this series.

With thanks and regards,
