Greetings from the Foundation for Agrarian Studies!
The second seminar of the FAS Young Scholars’ Online Seminar Series, July-November 2026, will be presented by Anjana Kesav, PhD Scholar, Centre for Development Studies, Thiruvananthapuram, on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at 4 PM IST.
Anjana’s study aims to examine agrarian differentiation by looking at differences in households’ vulnerability to future economic stress. It explores how households within the agrarian structure differ in their ability to sustain reproduction, and examines how land relations, market dependence, and the relationship between capital and labour shape these differences.
The study estimates households’ vulnerability to future consumption shortfalls and economic stress using cross-sectional data from the Situation Assessment Survey (SAS) 2018–19.
The discussant for this session is Soham Bhattacharya, Assistant Professor, Department of Public Administration, Presidency University, Kolkata.
The series is chaired by Barbara Harriss-White, Emeritus Professor of Development Studies, the University of Oxford.
To attend the seminars of this series, please register using this link. This registration is valid for all the webinars of the YSOSS 2024-25 series.
We will be grateful if you extend this invitation to other scholars whom you think may be interested in attending the seminar series, and encourage them to register. We have attached the schedule of the series to this email.
